Regulating online marketing communications

It’s good to hear that marketing communications on Websites are finally going under some official regulation. At least in the UK. The new regulation is set to start on Martch 1st.

Advertising Standards Authority, UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media will now be adding Websites to their coverage as well. According to their Website, ASA “works to ensure ads are legal, decent, honest and truthful by
applying the Advertising Codes.”

There were rapidly increasing complaints about the online ads due to the lack of any control mechanism for the Web. So, I am glad to see UK is taking a step toward the issue.

Living in a country where there is no control over ads in any form what so ever, I now expect to see a similar action in Cyprus and other countries as well.

You can view the original article at Digital Tonto, or read the full-text inside.

UPDATE: I also found this article by George F. Snell III on the same issue. Interesting stuff!
